The beaches

The beaches

The littoral sector is characterized by a highly rugged morphology, in which coastal processes on the one hand and those of alteration on granite rocks on the other, have played a predominant role. The coastal landscape is characterized by an alternation of promontories carved on the rocks of the intrusive basement and small beaches between one promontory and another. The beaches of the Marine Area have, however, been catalogued in two main groups, the arched or "Pocket Beach" systems, limited at the extremes by rocky outcrops, and the systems set up on coastal cordons and ancient beach deposits, often characterized by the presence of a depression behind the beach or lagoons. In almost the entire coastal sector there are also shelves of erosion on rock that can be interpreted as ancient terraces of marine abrasion.
