Project co-financed by the European Union, a project that aims to reintroduce the Patella ferruginea in three Marine Protected Areas of Liguria, where the causes of extinction have been eliminated and adequate protection is ensured.
The reintroduction of P. ferruginea will be implemented through the transfer to the MPA of Portofino of specimens from the Tavolara MPA, where a rich population in good health is still present, with more than 3,100 specimens. The creation of a P. ferruginea breeding facility and the adoption of aquaculture protocols, to produce new specimens in a controlled environment, to extend the repopulation process and replicate it in other MPAs.
