A "border" area between land and sea, this habitat has great environmental and landscape importance. The presence, in fact, of particular plant species adapted to the conditions of aridity and wind here present is fundamental for the maintenance and protection of the beaches, which otherwise would be rapidly subject to erosion processes. In some cases, as for example in Porto Taverna, Cala Brandinchi and La Cinta beach, there are ponds at the back of the dunes, places where it is possible to observe different species of water birds.
